EAT Program

The Huntsville EAT (Earth At the Table) program is designed to celebrate ongoing sustainable practices at restaurants, cafes, breweries, and other food establishments, and to encourage other businesses to do the same! The focus is on reducing single-use plastics, minimizing food waste, improving access to local foods, and supporting plant-based diets.

How It Works

  • Each action earns points, with higher points awarded for impactful actions (e.g., fully plant-based menus, composting, food donation).

  • Total points determine the restaurant's certification level:

Level 1: Asteroid Partner (1–10 points)

For establishments beginning their sustainability journey

Level 2: Moon Partner (11–30 points)

    For establishments making consistent efforts

Level 3: Planet Partner (31–60 points)

    For establishments actively integrating sustainability

Level 4: Star Partner (61–90 points)

For establishments demonstrating advanced sustainability efforts

Level 5: Galaxy Partner (91+ points)

For establishments setting a global example in sustainability

  • Volunteers will work with the restaurant to verify the score and answer questions. The rating will be valid for one year and then has to be rechecked. We will visit the restaurant in person to verify their sustainability actions. The scorecards will be uploaded here for transparency and anyone visiting these restaurants can reference the scorecard and let us know if anything seems off!

  • We will promote and hype the restaurants that are EAT partners through our website, social media, newsletter and more! There are also business case benefits to being more sustainable that we are highlighting in an incentives brochure (coming soon)! As more restaurants sign on we will also build a network to bring more sustainability options to our partners at lower costs through bulk packages when possible!
